Ominous Nine: Cross-Validation of the Nine Dark Personality Trait Model

Abstract :
Introduction: The Nine Dark Model is an expanded model of the Dark pentad Traits, which has added egoism, self-interest, moral disengagement, and psychological entitlement to this set. The aim of study was to Cross-Validation of the nine dark personality traits model. Method: The research was descriptive-correlation. The research community was the students of Azarbaijan Shahid Madani University (6761 people including 4141 women and 2620 men) and the sample was 400 people (women=229 & men=171) who were selected voluntarily. The instruments included Dark Pentad Scale, Egoism Scale, Self-Interest Inventory, Moral Disengage Scale and Psychological Entitlement Scale. The data was analyzed by exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis using spss22 and LISREL8. Results: The results of exploratory factor analysis revealed spitfullness, self-interest, sadism, narcissism, psychological entitlement, egoism, moral disengagement, psychopathy, and Machiavellianism, which explained 58% of the variance. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated the confirmation of the nine-factor structure of the model; the fitness indices were h igher than 0.9. Internal consistency through Cronbach's alpha for components between 0.68 and 0.81 and the whole scale is 0.88 and through spilit-half for components between 0.64 and 0.79 and the whole scale is 0.81. Conclusion: The scale of nine dark personality traits is a valid and reliable instrument for clinical and research situations.
