trial in conflicted couples: the effectiveness of emotion-based cognitive behavioral couple therapy on marital burnout and marital intimacy

Abstract :

Marital satisfaction and relationships between couples have several consequences; In the first decade, marital satisfaction will decrease and conflicts will occur. These conflicts can increase marital burnout and reduce marital intimacy. The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effectiveness of emotion-based cognitive behavioral therapy on marital burnout and marital intimacy in conflicted couples referring to family counseling centers in Alshatar city. The statistical population included couples with marital conflict referring to the family counseling centers of Alshatar city and the sample size included 3 couples (6 persons) who were voluntarily selected and underwent emotional-based cognitive behavioral couple therapy. In this research, a single-case design with multiple baselines was used. The emotion-based cognitive-behavioral couple therapy protocol was implemented in 15 60-minute intervention sessions, and subjects responded to Pines' (1996) Marital Apathy and Walker and Thompson's (1983) Marital Intimacy Questionnaires. The data were analyzed by visual drawing method, stable change index and recovery percentage formula. The rate of recovery after treatment in the variable of marital burnout was 36.13, 31.74, 30.74 and marital intimacy was 40.98, 40.29, 60.74. The research findings indicate that emotion-based cognitive behavioral couple therapy is effective in reducing marital burnout and increasing marital intimacy.
