The aim of this research is to provide a causal model of social comparison and psychological well-being through self-esteem. The participants in this research were 300 undergraduate students of Shiraz university who were selected by a multi-stage cluster method. The research tools included social comparison questionnaire (Gibbons & Buunk, 1999), psychological well-being scale (Ryff, 1989) and self-esteem inventory (Coopersmith, 1976). The structural equation modelling (SEM) using AMOS was performed to analyze the model. The results showed that social comparison is a predictor of psychological well-being through mediating factor. The social comparison has no significant direct effect on psychological well-being. The result showed that social comparison has a negative effect on self-esteem and self-esteem has a positive relation with psychological well-being. Based on the results, the mediating role of self-esteem was approved. It can be concluded that psychological well-being is influenced by social comparison and self-esteem.
