Comparison of the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral, acceptance and commitment focused therapies on depressive symptoms, irrational thoughts, self-restraint and the value of life in patients with major depressive disorder

Recent research shows that the effectiveness of therapeutic approaches cannot be measured only in terms of the symptoms of mental disorders, and considering the developments that have occurred in meta-diagnostic approaches, it is better to evaluate the effectiveness of therapeutic approaches on various psychological dimensions as well. be noticed.The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral and acceptance and commitment based therapies on depression symptoms, irrational thoughts, emotional inhibition and value of life in patients with major depressive disorder.The research method was semi-experimental. The statistical population included all the people who referred to the psychological clinics of the 5th district of Tehran. Sampling was done in a purposeful way and after the researcher interviewed the participants and verified the diagnostic criteria of major depression based on DSM-5. In total, 60 patients with major depression were selected and randomly placed in three groups of 20 people.The research tools included Jones Irrational Beliefs Questionnaire (IBQ-40), Beck Depression Questionnaire (2nd edition), Value of Life Questionnaire and Emotional Inhibition Questionnaire (ECQ).The findings showed that cognitive-behavioral therapy was more effective in improving symptoms of depression and irrational thoughts;But in improving emotional inhibition and value of life, acceptance/commitment therapy was more effective.It can be concluded that the two approaches of cognitive-behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment target different dimensions of mental health, and acceptance and commitment therapy ,At least in the short term, it has less effects on the symptoms of depression and irrational thoughts of patients with major depressive disorder.
