Validation of the Self-Assessed Wisdom Scale (SAWS) in Students

Abstract :
The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the psychometric indicators of the Wisdom Scale (SAWS) among students. This study is classified as descriptive-correlational research to select the desired sample from undergraduate students of Shiraz University in the academic year 2023-2024, 421 people were selected using multi-stage cluster random sampling method and completed the Webster Wisdom Scale and Goldberg Personality Traits questionnaires. The research data were analyzed in SPSS-22 and AMOS-22 software. The results of confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the existence of a five-factor structure in the scores obtained from the Persian version of the Wisdom Scale. In such a way that this scale has an acceptable fit with the data and all the goodness-of-fit indices for the five-factor model of wisdom were confirmed. In addition, Cronbach's alpha values for the components of the wisdom self-assessment scale were between 0.71 and 0.76, and for the total wisdom score was 0.80, which indicates the desirable reliability of the wisdom self-assessment tool. Also, the correlation coefficient of this scale with the extraversion and neuroticism dimensions of personality was 0.36 and -0.17, respectively, which indicates the convergent and divergent validity of this tool. These results indicate that the wisdom self-assessment scale (SAWS) can be used as a suitable tool for identifying wisdom in students with slight changes.
