Abstract :
Grit, as a strength of character and positive psychological trait, encompasses great effort, deep commitment and interest in achieving goals over long periods of time despite setbacks, failure and adversity. Therefore, this paper had the aim of adapt and validate the Grit-S Scale in a university student’s population. In this correlational study, 320 students (160 male and 160 female) who were selected using the convenience sampling method, were answered the Grit-S Scale (G-SS), the Emotion Cognition Regulation Questionnaire-Revised (ECRQ-R), the Stress Appraisal Measure-Revised (SAM-R) and the Scales of Psychological Well-being (SPW).The results of confirmatory factor analysis showed that the two-factor structure of Grit-S Scale including perseverance of effort and consistency of interest best fitted the data. Also, a multi-group CFA supported the structure as invariant across genders. Convergent evidence for the scores of grit dimensions were demonstrated through significant correlations with adaptive and maladaptive emotion cognition regulation strategies, cognitive appraisals and psychological well-being. Cronbach’s alpha for the perseverance of effort and consistency of interest subscales was 0/92 & 0/87, respectively. In sum, the results demonstrated that the Grit-S had sound validity and reliability among Iranian students. The results of this study also provide confidence in using the grit measurement among Iranian students in the future.
