Predicting Life Satisfaction Based on the Couples' Extrinsic Emotion Regulation with the Mediating Role of Humor Styles in Married Individuals

Abstract :
This study aimed to develop a life satisfaction model based on couples' extrinsic emotion regulation with the mediating role of humor styles in married individuals. The research method was descriptive-correlational. The statistical population consisted of married teachers residing in Zanjan province, from which 293 participants were selected through cluster random sampling. Research instruments included the Life Satisfaction Scale (RLS), the Couples' Extrinsic Emotion Regulation (CEER), and the Humor Styles Questionnaire (HSQ). Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling in Smart PLS software. Findings revealed significant direct effects of both positive and negative extrinsic emotion regulation on life satisfaction and humor styles. Additionally, the direct effect of humor styles on life satisfaction was significant. Analysis of indirect effects indicated that extrinsic emotion regulation has an indirect effect on married individuals' life satisfaction through humor styles (p < 0.05). Results demonstrate the significant mediating role of humor styles in the relationship between a couple's extrinsic emotion regulation and life satisfaction. Consequently, attention to the role of couples' extrinsic emotion regulation and humor styles in married individuals' life satisfaction can provide a foundation for greater awareness of factors affecting life satisfaction among couples
