Abstract :
Psychopathy, as a complex personality disorder, affects an individual's interactions and perception of emotions and can lead to harmful behaviors. The present study aimed to investigate the mediating role of attachment to parents and peers in the relationship between childhood traumas and self-efficacy with psychopathic personality in adolescents. This study was a cross-sectional study with a correlational design. The research sample consisted of 382 tenth and eleventh-grade students who were selected through convenience sampling from all high school students in Rasht in the second semester of the 1402 academic year. To collect data, the Levenson Self-Report Sociopath Scale (1995), the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (Bernstein et al., 2003), the Schwarzer and Jerusalem General Self-Efficacy Questionnaire (JSPE) (1995), and the Inventory Parents and Peers Attachment-Revised (Armsden and Greenberg, 1987), were used. Path analysis modeling was used to analyze the data. The results showed that childhood traumatic experiences were associated with adolescent psychopathy only through the mediating effect of attachment to parents and peers (p<0.05). However, self-efficacy was associated with adolescent psychopathy both directly and through the mediating effect of attachment to parents and peers (p<0.05). Attachment to parents and peers play an important role as mediating factors in the relationship between childhood trauma and self-efficacy with psychopathic personality in adolescents. These findings highlight the importance of paying attention to mediating factors in adolescent psychological processes and can provide strategies for intervention and prevention of psychopathic behaviors in this age group.
